Recently stopped smoking (3 mos), so appetite is off the charts. Really would appreciate hints: how much weight lost, how long it has taken you to see positive results, easy recipes (horrible cook, but love to eat). Thanks in advance for your support.
Answer:
It took me 3 months to loose 10 lbs from walking. I would walk approx 3 miles every evening around my neighborhood where there was a gradual incline. Then I hit a plateau, and I had to really step it up to loose the last 10, I'd do the 3 miles, but I'd run for parts of it, then come home and do some tae-bo and crunches. Most people will hit a plateau but don't give up! It seems like that makes things harder for you, but don't look at it that way - look at it as, you body has greater abilities now! (the walk was first my whole workout, then the walk became my warm-up!!) Don't bother with dieting just eat wisely - healthy choices, and reasonable portions. Make it ok for a treat now and then, but keep your visualized goal strong. Going out with friends dancing helps (easy on the booze) kickboxing classes helped me stick with it when I got bored with working out alone. Good luck!
Exercise will help dramatically, especially in combination with reducing calorie intake. If you exercise by brisk walking for 30 min each day you can expect to see significant differences within about 3 months. This exercise will also help you cope better with stress and the feeling associated with stopping smoking.Best wishes.
First, stock up on decaf flavoured coffee, flavoured teas, any low calorie hot drink, and flavoured (sugar free!!) waters. Drink these instead of eating. You still get the fullness and oral gratification, especially sipping at the hot drinks, the same hand to mouth action with the satisfaction of a deep flavour in the mouth.Try some MBT trainers/sneakers from a good shoe shop or athletic store (anywhere they sell walking shoes or orthopedic services). These work muscles you don't ordinarily use and also take more energy. Weight loss is always about 75% of what you eat, and 25% exercise, unless you have several hours a day to exercise, you won't shift very much without chnging your diet. Go for at least half an hour a day very fast walking, one day with the MBTs one day without. Or just walk everywhere instead of driving... take stairs instead of lifts/elevators..
One indication that you are burning calories is if you are sweating. If I were you, I would get on a treadmill and run. If you are unable to do so, walk for at least 2 hours a day. 30 minutes won't cut it.
after my mom was diagnosed with diabetes.. she started doing this walking tape called
"walk away the pounds" by Leslie Sansoneshe lost about 15 pounds in about 3 weeks along w/ eating healthy and with smaller portionsso, good job on quitting smoking!! just make sure when you feel that urge to eat.. (and make sure you do! so u wont pick up the habit again) but make sure you eat carrots or grapes or something healthy.. and drink ALOT of water!good luck.. and congratulations!
