Liquid diet?

My BF,53,has let himself get out of shape. He is a truck driver and hasn't been exercising like he used to. He has recently started taking daily walks and working out again. He told me last night he wants to start a diet where you only drink liquids for 21 days, forget what the name of the diet is. I'm a nurse and I'm trying to talk him out of this as I feel it not healthy at all. Has anyone had experience with this diet? He has high cholesterol and high blood pressure and I'm very concerned this will cause him major problems, especially if he is on the road driving. Am I just being overly concerned or does anyone else think this doesn't sound healthy. What can I tell him so he doesn't think I'm just a nag?
Answer:
Not heathly at all- will gain the weight back and more- just try more exercise and eat the same- more cardo. will make the diff!
what **** ***** ********* you **** *****
I am a nursing student, so I kinda have had similar situations with friends and family. You need to tell him not as a GF, but as a health care professional that it's a bad idea. Maybe he can meet with a dietitian to discuss safe weight loss, or you could counsel him on diet and exercise. Maybe you could do it with him. Try the USDA website for ideas!
the Lemonade Diet
If he is referring to a liquid diet from television ads and in stores I would not recommend it. Since he has certain conditions that need monitored I would send him to a health care professional. There is a protein rich liquid diet that a health care professional could supervise that can be very beneficial for him. Tell him that if he does plan to go on a liquid diet that he should ask his doctor about going on one that he or she can help monitor progress safely. It is widely used for obese patients and those patients needing to meet criteria for a gastric bypass procedure. Discourage him from the liquid fad diet and talk him into speaking with a physician or diet and nutrition specialist that can help him.
